As prom season approaches, hallways and group chats start buzzing with one main topic: dresses. For many girls at our school, finding a prom dress is more than just shopping. It’s an experience filled with excitement, stress, and a lot of decision-making
Stores begin putting out racks of formal gowns months in advance, and social media quickly fills with prom inspiration.
“I started looking for prom dresses at the beginning of the school year and once I knew my dress I bought it right away,” said Kaylee Colderchantt, a senior.
Many girls have already posted on the Hinsdale Central “prom dresses 2026” Instagram account. This account shows many girls that are looking for prom dresses and even make sure that each girl has their own unique dress.
“ I love my dress. It’s all of my favorite colors like orange, pink and light pink. It’s got sparkles and patterns as well. This dress is definitely the best representation of me,” said Emma Leen, a senior.
Sparkle and texture are also making waves. Sequins, glitter overlays, and beaded designs are everywhere, catching the light on the dance floor. Metallic fabrics in gold, silver, and rose gold are favorites for students who want an eye-catching shimmer without a busy design.

“One of the things that I’m most excited for is going downtown for prom. I am also excited for the boat ride after the dance,” Makayla Lehman, a senior.
