As Valentine’s Day approaches, pink and red decorations begin popping up around school, and conversations about plans start filling the hallways. While some students focus on relationships, Valentines Day can be about much more than just couples. It’s a chance to celebrate friendships, spread kindness, and do something fun, whether you’re going out or staying in.
One popular idea is hosting a “Galentines” get together. Instead of focusing just on couples, students can invite their closest friends over for a movie night, baking party, or DIY craft session. Making heart shaped cookies, decorating cupcakes, or even creating handmade cards can turn an ordinary night into something more memorable.
“My friends are planning on hosting a Galentines. We plan on decorating the house and bringing different food platters like dessert, fruit, and even a Chick-fil-a one,” said Karina Miller, a junior.
Of course, Valentine’s Day can also be a chance for students to step outside of their comfort zones and try something new. Some students use the holiday as an opportunity to plan a group outing, like going bowling or even a group dinner. Others might spend their time with their family.
“I usually spend Valentine’s Day with my family. My mom always plans fun games or even invites more family members over for the night. There have been times where we have gone to a nice restaurant with my whole family,” said Jack Cavanah, a sophomore.
For students who enjoy school involvement, Valentines themed events can also bring people together. Students during lunch that are a part of choir are promoting their singing Valentines. For just one dollar you’re able to purchase a singing Valentines during lunch periods. This means choir students are able to go to a friend’s classroom to sing them a Valentines themed song.
“I think this idea is so much fun and I always think it’s a great way to get students involved but also I love buying one for my friends as well,” said Sarah Pelinkovic, a junior.
Whether students are planning a fun night out, staying home with friends or family and even participating in school activities, Valentine’s Day offers many ways to celebrate. At the end of the day, it’s less about expensive gifts and more about connection. No matter how you choose to spend it, Valentine’s Day can be an opportunity to spread positivity and maybe even a little extra joy and chocolate along the way.
